Via 313 Pizza

The Good: I have been searching for a good pizza joint ever since moving here from Chicago, and this is definitely the closest I have ever come. I tip my hat to you. Crust is light and buttery, cheese is perfectly crisped, pepperonis perfectly curled, and the sauce has just a touch of heat. *chefs kiss*. The “Bar-Style” pizza also reminded me of the Chicago Tavern Style as well. The Meh: There was an issue with the ovens and they were running an hour behind. They did give me a free drink of my choice at the bar which was amazing. I only mention it because the 2nd time I went to get a pizza they were also very behind. I am not sure if this is a reoccurring thing or if I just got unlucky twice.

Giving this review simply based on the customer service I receive from Lyn. I never came to this location often, but I return there frequently just because she is there. She isn’t pushy, she listens to what I am insecure about and finds everything to fit that. I do not like to be followed around or pressured when shopping (nor does anyone I am sure, which had happened here with an older woman recently, side note lady: no one likes that, don’t tell them to do that, btw.) Lyn and the girls don’t make me feel that way though. Love love her and would recommend anyone to visit her! Thanks for always making me feel/look fierce Lyn! Love all of the girls there and I think you all do an excellent job! Keep doin ya thangsss. -Love, Morgan 🙂

District Kitchen + Cocktails

The food was good if not overpriced. Not a very diverse menu. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The flavor was average. We waited for 15 minutes to order, even though we were 1 of 2 tables seated. The place was empty. After we ate we waited 10 minutes to order dessert. The dessert was delicious, but also over priced as well. The scoop of ice cream was a table spoon size with a good size cake slice. After we were all done. We were looking for the server for the check for an additional 20 minutes. Very disappointed with this experience. 😕

Attractions

Bullock Texas State History Museum

Excellent exhibits, layout and the accompanying information to each exhibit was succinct and paints a good picture of the era. A well thought out museum where you flow easily through time especially in the colonial history (first/ground floor) and lone star history (second floor). Their sharks section, which seemed out of place (I guess the place is aimed at families with little children), has a few noteworthy fossil reproductions, including a couple which are 250-150 million years old. The ancient history + colonizers section had interesting exhibits about the French and Spanish expeditions to colonize north America. Second floor was all about the lone star state, and about the wars between the Mexicans, US colonizers, and Native Americans. It also had exhibits talking about immigrants such as the Chinese who built railroads and ran businesses, and about the history of slavery and racism. Third floor was all about culture, farming, animal husbandry, oil and gas, and NASA’s presence and missions from the state. Overall a great experience. Can be covered in 1.5 hours if you read quickly. Recommend 2.5 hours if you want to take your time.

Bob’s Steak & Chop House

Bob’s Steak & Chop House in Austin Texas at the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa was a wonderful dinner. We made reservations for a Monday evening Dinner. We were staying at the resort so access to the restaurant was very easy. Our waiter was very professional. The atmosphere was nice for a typically steak out. When it came to the food, we ordered a bit. We started with the Bread with Butter and Calamari. Both were good. The Dinner was great! I had the Ribeye with Mashed Potatoes, Gravy and Carrot, while she had the Crab Cakes. We would both order the same meal again! Next time we stay at the Resort we will be back for more. If you are staying at the Resort we highly recommend having a nice dinner here.

Cafe Blue at Hill Country Galleria

I’ve been dining here for several years, and it never disappoints. This evening, I went out with both a soup and appetizer. The appetizer was called a “Tropical Ceviche,” a delightful blend of white fish and tropical fruit. A very nice presentation in a parfait glass. The a very traditional New England style Clam Chowder. The flavors were perfect. However, I was disappointed that there weren’t more visible chunks of clam. Finally, a new dish for me, compared to what I normally get. The shrimp brochette. This dish construction was the typical bacon wrapped shrimp. The reason I have avoided this dish is because I have found anything bacon wrapped tends to be overwhelmed by the bacon. This was NOT the case. The bacon truly complemented the shrimp flavor. There is a small sliver of jalapeño but it added only a very small amount of heat. The best part was the creamy butter sauce. Well executed!
